Pre/Postpartum Physiotherapy

DSC_7384.jpg

Physiotherapy for women throughout their pregnancy.

We recommend women coming in for pelvic floor assessments and preparation for labor and birth from the time they are 20 weeks - this ensures we know where the placenta is located and that the cervix is long and closed before we perform a vaginal exam.

  • Pelvic girdle pain / Pubic symphysis pain / Sciatic pain

  • Abdominal separation (rectus diastasis)

  • Incontinence / Frequency / Urgency

  • Constipation

  • Preparation for labour and birth:

  • Relaxation of pelvic floor

  • Strengthening of pelvic floor

  • Perineal massage

  • Other:

  • Vulvar and leg varicose veins

  • Fitting of SRC compression wear (stockist of SRC)

Physiotherapy for all women who have had a baby.

For women wanting to be assessed and guided in the postpartum phase, we recommend first coming in for a 6 week check.

We offer reduced rate 6 week checks for women 4-8 weeks postpartum, so that cost isn't a barrier to excellent postpartum care.

  • Rectus diastasis (abdominal separation) assessment and management

  • Perineal scar care

  • Pelvic floor strengthening programs for prolapse and incontinence

  • Pelvic floor care for pain with return to sex

  • Return to exercise assessments

  • Dequervains tenosynovitis (wrist/thumb pain)

  • Mastitis care and prevention

Pain conditions

Physiotherapy for women experiencing pain in any areas of their body.

We assess the body as a whole to determine the cause of your pain - this means we may assess your ribs and feet to find the cause of your period pain (for example). We are experts in linking the pelvic floor to the rest of the body to determine the cause of your symptoms, not just treating the symptoms themselves.

Some areas we commonly treat:

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Low back pain

  • Hip pain

  • Bladder pain syndrome / interstitial cystitis

  • Endometriosis

  • Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)

Pre-pointe assessments

We now offer pre-pointe assessments with our two physiotherapists Nicole and Brianna.

These are 60 minute consults run by our pre-pointe trained, womens health physio's

In these sessions Nicole and Bri assesses:

  • Strength

  • Joint range of motion

  • Stability

  • Ballet specific technique

After this assessment, Nicole  and Bri will provide exercises and feedback for the dancer, parents and teachers to help ensure a safe start to pointe work.

We hope that by working with young women we can prevent injuries, while also providing a safe space for discussion of the importance of relaxing pelvic floor muscles and the whole body when a training session is finished (a lot of ballet dancers have tight pelvic floor muscles and over grip in their abdomen which can lead to pelvic floor dysfunction!)

Breast Ultrasound

We have recently added Therapeutic Breast Ultrasound to our treatments.

Breast Ultrasound is beneficial treatment for women presenting with blocked ducts and difficulties breastfeeding.

In this  consultation we use ultrasound, teach you breast massage, provide extra information and resources to help prevent recurrence, and have you express / feed your baby to help you clear your breast.

If you require breast ultrasound out of hours (after 5pm) or haven't heard back from our reception team, please text 0412457673 and we will organise an urgent breast ultrasound appointment.
